Many of you have switched to organic milk if you still drink milk. While this is a step in the right direction as an improvement over conventional dairy, the milk you are paying a premium for might not be as amazing as you think it is. The best milk you can drink is raw (unpasteurized) local, pastured, with A2 genetics. Ideally you can visit the farm, shake your farmers hand, and inspect their operation. I am not going to go into all the details of raw milk and genetics today but you can go to realmilk.com for local sources of the highest quality milk. In an effort to cash in on our desire for more nutritious food many large scale commercial “organic” milk operations have grown up using the same techniques as conventional corporate farms. These are CAFOs (concentrated animal feeding operations). They can be huge, they push out small family farms and the milk is not of high quality. These cows are fed organic grain but never stand on, much less eat a blade of fresh grass. This makes a tremendous difference in not just the quality of life for the cow, but the quality of nutrition in the milk. Click here for an article with more details.
